Civilization IV Event at the Morrison Library

May 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’ve arranged to use the super Alienware gaming computers for a Civilization IV LAN event here at the Morrison Regional Library. It’s going to take place on June 14th, a Saturday, from 10 am until 4 pm. We have room for nine people on the Alienware laptops and we can probably squeeze in a few people if they have their own laptops and Civ IV on them.

I hope we can get a mix of Civ IV veterans and rookies in there. We can set the difficulty level for each player if we feel we need to.

As of now we have one person signed up and Mark and I are going to join in . We have 8 of the 9 spots open and it’s first come first serve at 704-416-5431.

We had a test run with three of us last week and it was really hard to stop after an hour. I really am looking forward to a room full of people trying to dominate the world. As much fun as the three of us were having, a roomful of players should really be a hoot. It really was more exciting contacting a new civilization when it’s being controlled by the person sitting across from you. At one point I was in contact with another player and the third player couldn’t find either of us on the map. We laughed at him.

Those of you that are not familiar with the Civilization franchise there is a nice description of the game here. In fact, the website Civ Fanatics is a great resource for information, strategies and downloads for the Civilization series. I downloaded a gigantic reproduction of the Earth a couple weeks back and played as the Mongols and got handily wiped out by the Chinese after I started a war at the wrong time.

If you are looking for a challenge join us on June 14th.
