After receiving an email from Christie, who has taken over the overlordship of the blog, I agreed to come aboard and help provide a little content here.
My name is Ed and I am a librarian at the Morrison Regional Library. We’ve had a few game nights here and one successful and one unsuccessful Madden tournament.
I first started playing video games on the Odyssey 2 my father purchased back in the late 1970’s when I was ten or twelve. I remember he and I had some very fun and competitive games of baseball and football on that console. The graphics were primitive when compared to today’s 3d environments but the gameplay was very good on some games. Simple but well designed.
The first time I really realized how deep and fulfilling a game could be was when I received a Commodore 64 for a Christmas present back in the early 80’s. I think my parents hoped I would become a computer programmer with the thing but I actually used it more for entertainment. I played such games as Crush, Crumble, Chomp (which is still better than the Godzilla games that have come out recently), The Seven Cities of Gold, Microleague Baseball, and my favorite Pools of Radiance. Pools of Radiance was my first step ever into a role playing game. A genre I didn’t really step back into until I bought an Xbox a few years ago and played Kights of the Old Republic.
Back about two months before they stopped supporting it I bought a Sega Saturn. I’d rather not talk about that. There was a game called Winter Heat that two friends and I put a lot of time in. Eventually it become too much of a button mashing game as our skills leveled off but it was a great game for hanging out for a couple of years. One thing I did learn was that when your console gets discontinued you can purchase used games for it at a nice bargain price on eBay.
Now I am on my second generation of the Xbox and that will probably be the main focus of any entries I make here. I also pay attention to a couple of websites that post gaming news and if I see something worthwhile I may link to it here.
Oh yeah, if anyone plays Halo 3 online my user name is zzazaz Add me to your friends list. Let’s do battle together.
